Just got back from a steelhead trip.
Here are the photos. More photos and maybe some video to come later the week after I get some much needed rest.
The past 2 weeks consisted of the outer banks and Virginia Beach. The outer banks was pretty much a bust with high winds. No fish but got a few cool photos.
Virginia beach went better w/ some stripers and hickory shad (?????????) caught on fly. Ended up having to do a fly switch to get the shad to leave me alone. Never had that happen down there before. The water was glass calm and it wasn’t exactly freezing.
Not many photos taken in Virginia Beach as I was on little sleep and opted not to take the DSLR out on the kayak.
So I blame the lack of posts on moving to a new place and not because I haven’t been fishing.
Regardless, I am about to post 20-30 photos of some fish from the past couple months over the next few days.
Enjoy. Then its off to OBX for thanksgiving, VB for some rocks, and then to NY to give steelheading a shot.
Parker, Lauren and I hit the Shenandoah. The river had gone up about a foot since last time.
Parker borrowed my yak and Lauren and I rented a canoe.
The fishing started off rather slow but picked up quickly and finished very strong. One section of the river resulted in non stop fish for all of us. Lauren took the big fish of the day (and her first ever smallie at that).
All fish came on topwater.
Finally back to fishing again. While recovering, I went out and bought a 2 wt which I used for quite a bit of bluegilling.
I was able to make it down to VB this weekend. Chris and I managed 5 keeper flounder, some toads, a shark, and a couple cobia sightings. Besides the hell like heat, it was a good time.
Here are some photos.
I was a bit busy with some work earlier today. Lauren on the other hand whipped up a few berry flies for us to use. Having a girlfriend that can tie flies/fish is pretty awesome. She took some photos of one. Two hours later, it found its way into the mouth of a bass and almost a carp (rejected it on eat). The buff isn’t a fashion accessory….its a bug deterrent.
